Reading does not only transport you to other worlds, places and lives. It is an excellent exercise for your brain and a great relaxation technique. Unlike movies, where visuals can surprise you in unpleasant ways, with reading you have choice at what pace to go and when to stop, if feeling overwhelmed.
I am happiest when reading. I used to spend the sacred ritual of morning coffee and silence on social media, until it gave me unbearable anxiety and I started reading instead.
I get up early on work days and on leisure days. I am addicted to the quietness and freshness of early mornings. I brew my coffee, pour it in my favorite mug, grab my book, and head to the balcony. Total bliss! These are the types of moments one lives for. I wish I could make the seconds pass slower.
I read in other parts of the day too. Any free minute I can get and be undisturbed, I read. Among all activities I have ever known, reading equals absolute happiness. You can be anyone, anywhere. You can travel to places, distant and close. You can investigate a crime or travel to open space. Whatever your heart yearns. You can even become part of fantasy worlds and live among fantastic creatures. You can visit any part of history's timeline. You can live life after life in a matter of days. Covered in your blanket. Sipping tea.
I am happiest when reading.
